I have been coming to the Trudi Birger DVI clinic in Jerusalem for 6 years now. You may think that my mission is to improve the dental health of the poor children of Jerusalem, and to some extent that’s true, but there’s more. I believe in”Tikkun Olam.” Roughly translated that means to “heal the world.” And I don’t mean one tooth at a time. The photo posted here is of me with Dr. Nadal Alayyan. He is an Arab Palestinian dentist who will cancel his patients to work at the DVI clinic. Why does he do this? It’s because at the age of 7 he was one of the indigent children who came to the clinic for help. He was in pain for three days until a volunteer dentist attended to his needs. He has never forgotten the help he received and continues to donate his efforts to the clinic. It is because of stories like this one that I have hope for the future and will continue to do whatever little I can.
